     Linda has been working with individuals, groups, and families since her retirement from the U.S. Navy
in 1998.  She took her twenty-one years of working with diverse populations, issues, and situations that she
encountered with people in the Navy and enhanced her personal experiences with lots of scholarly
research and education.  Her collective knowledge and experience is honed and put to great use in a
myriad of mental health modalities and specialized populations.  Linda is GLBT friendly.

     Some of the "hands on" experience Linda has gained would include:

- Working with people in Day Support Programs designed for people diagnosed with Severe Mental Illness,
i.e., Schizophrenia, Major Depressive Disorder, Bi-Polar Disorder, Acute Anxiety Disorder and the
medications and daily living challenges that may be associated with these disorders.

- Working with children, teens, women and men traumatized by Domestic Violence, Sexual Abuse, Physical
Abuse, Emotional Abuse and Workplace Abuse.  In specific scenarios, Linda worked with both the victims
and perpetrators.

     In the area of substance abuse, she has worked with people working toward recovery. Her experience
with addictions therapy would include (but not limited to): street and prescription drug addiction, alcohol
abuse and addiction, food, Internet, and sexual addiction.  Linda works closely with the judicial system,
probation and parole officers, 12-step programs and the families and friends of the person involved.

     As a current Therapeutic Foster Parent, Linda continues her experience with foster children who have
been removed from their biological homes by various cities Social Service agencies.  She works very
closely with case managers, social workers, psychologists, other mental health therapists, attorneys and
the court systems to ensure stability and safety for these youths.  She understands "the system".

     Originating from her work with youths in foster care, Linda has acquired extensive knowledge and
experience with the Autism Spectrum Disorders; which would include both low and high functioning Autism
and Asperger's Disorder.  She is fluent in specific needs, therapies, i.e. Physical, Speech and occupation
Therapy; Co-Morbid issues that may include Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, behavioral disorders, anger,
school accommodations, IEP's, social skills development and feelings expression.

     Linda "speaks Autism" and can personally relate to the day-to-day frustrations and need for adjustments
to daily living required for diagnosed (or undiagnosed) individuals, family members and friends.

     
Please note that Linda is one of very few mental health therapists in the Hampton Roads area that
has the understanding and skills to work with children, teens, and adults (verbal), to include their family
members, who are struggling to understand the complexities of the Autism Spectrum.
